LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern University wrestling coach
Brandon Jorge released the team's 2020-21 schedule this afternoon.
The Fire will participate in two opens to start the year followed by 12 dual meets.
"Despite some of the scheduling challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were still able to put together an extremely challenging schedule that will prepare us for our conference and national tournaments," said Jorge. "We return a very tough dual lineup, so I am looking forward to some of our head-to-head duals against some of the best teams in the nation."
On November 7
th, the sixth season of competition begins in Williamsburg, Ky. at the Patriot Open. The following week, the Fire will head to Marietta, Ga. for the Life University Open.
The first dual meets will take place the following week as the Fire host the annual Fire Duals at The Fire Pit. Action will start at 8 a.m. and will feature visits from first-year program Montreat, Reinhardt, Texas Wesleyan, and Keiser.
History will be made on December 5
th as the Fire host the Florida Duals which will feature three collegiate wrestling teams from the Sunshine State. It has been more than 35 years since multiple programs in Florida have competed in college wrestling.
"One of the highlights of our season will be getting to compete against two other universities in our state, while growing our in-state rivalries," said Jorge, a three-time state champion wrestler at nearby Lake Gibson High School. "We are looking to continue our dominance in the state of Florida, while climbing the ladder to become the best team in both the Mid-South Conference and the NAIA."
Keiser, which is in its second season of competition and St. Thomas which begins its inaugural campaign will be the opponents.
Southeastern will also make a trip to Waleska, Ga. which will host a tri-match between three Top 10 programs in Reinhardt, Lindsey Wilson, and SEU.
The 2021 portion begins with Southeastern taking on Life in Marietta on January 16
th in a rematch of a dual that came down to criteria last season. Six days later, the Fire will be back in Georgia to take on Brewton Parker College.
January 30
th will be the final home dual of the season and will be Senior Day against St. Andrews University. The dual season will conclude on February 5
th in Tennessee against Cumberland University.
The postseason schedule has the Fire headed to Bowling Green, Ky. for the Mid-South Championships February 19
th and 20
th. The NAIA National Championships will return to Wichita, Kan. on March 5
th and 6
th.
