MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.—The Fire men's tennis team came within a point of an upset Wednesday night at St. Thomas.
SEU led the Bobcats, which are receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 2-1 after doubles play, but lost the match 5-4.
Santiago Haas and
Hugo Pires came away with an 8-2 win at No. 3 Doubles, and
Felipe Barbosa and
Thomas Ortega battled to win the tiebreaker 7-5 to claim a 9-8 win at No. 2 Doubles.
In singles play, the Fire got points from
Lucca Marcheschi (6-1, 6-1) and
Enrique Martinez (6-1, 6-3) at No. 4.
At No. 5 singles,
Tyler Glowaki won the second set 6-4 after losing the first in a tiebreaker, but lost the third, 6-3.
The Fire return to action on Friday at home against NCAA Division III No. 8 Gustavus Adolphus.
