KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The Southeastern men's basketball team defeated the Brescia University Bearcats Friday night 105-72, advancing to 7-1 overall on the season.
The Fire started the game by outscoring their opponents 16-11 within the first four minutes of play. After a timeout for SEU, the Fire went on 11-point streak to advance their lead to 27-11 with 12:47 remaining in the first frame.
For the remaining minutes, the Fire continued to dominant as the biggest lead in the first half was seen with four minutes to go, and SEU held a 29-point advantage.
At the intermission, Southeastern led 49-23 against the Bearcats. Blake Morrow guided the Fire's offense as he earned a total of 14 points after 20 minutes of play. SEU made 20 field goals, compared to Brescia's 10. The Fire also registered a total of five steals, 28 rebounds, and 11 assists in the first half.
Returning from the break, Southeastern started out the second half going on an 11-point run to advance their lead by 37 points.
Southeastern maintained their lead throughout the remaining minutes of the game, holding their advantage of an average 35-point lead over Brescia.
The biggest lead of the game was seen with nine minutes to go in the game, as a successful free-throw by Isaiah Moody and three-pointer by Malcolm Holman advanced the Fire's lead by 40-points.
Overall, the Fire shot 51.4% from the field compared to Brescia's 35.1%. Southeastern was fortunate from the free-throw line as they made 24 of their 27 free throws, shooting 88.9%.
The Bearcats were the more successful team on the night for shooting beyond the arc, as they were shooting 43.5% from the three-point line, compared to the Fire's 28.0%.
Five SEU individuals finished the night with double-digit points. Morrow lead the Fire in points with a total of 19. Following Morrow was Riley Minix who ended with 15 points.
Southeastern ended the day with a total of 55 rebounds. Minix lead the Fire in rebounds with 10.
The Fire will be back in action tomorrow in Kingsport, Tenn. for their second game of The Show - NAIA Division II Showcase. SEU will take on No. 11 Washington Adventist at 6:30 p.m. ET.
