Box Score KINGSPORT, Tenn.- On a tough shooting night for the Fire, the RV Southeastern University men's basketball team fell to the No. 11 Washington Adventist University Shock 76-61 in the NAIA Division II Showcase. With the loss, the Fire split their time in Kingsport this weekend 1-1.
SEU shot 29.2% (19-65) from the field and 11.5% (3-26) from three-point range on the night, while WAU went 49.2% (30-61) and 25% (5-20) from behind the arc. While the Fire did force 26 Shock turnovers on the night, they also committed 19 miscues of their own.
The 7-2 advantage the Fire held over the Shock with 17:10 to go in the first half was their largest lead of the contest. WAU pulled back in front 12-9 with 13:10 to go in the half and never relinquished that lead throughout the rest of the contest.
Washington Adventist outscored Southeastern 24-12 in the final nine minutes of the first half to take a 41-28 lead into the locker room.
WAU used a 15-4 run to open up the contest 59-39 with 11:40 remaining in the second half. The Fire were unable to cut the deficit to within 14 points for the remainder of the game.
Senior shooting guard
Blake Morrow scored 11 of his team-leading 15 points from the free-throw line. Senior point guard
Jeremy Oppenheimer totaled 14 points, while contributing six rebounds and dishing out four assists.
Junior forward
Karl Jeanty led all players with 10 rebounds.
The Fire look to bounce back as they return to The Furnace and Sun Conference play next week. SEU hosts the Webber International University Warriors next Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. eastern.
