BRUNSWICK, Ga. - The Southeastern men's basketball earned a 74-64 victory versus TSC opponents Coastal Georgia this Thursday evening.
With a minute into play, the Mariners took a 2-0 lead over the Fire with a successful lay-up. The Fire would have the opportunity to tie the game, as Coastal Georgia foul brought SEU to the free-throw line. Unfortunately, SEU would miss both attempts which would keep the game at a two-point deficit.
Southeastern found themselves at the free-throw line shortly after, and Blake Morrow would sink both free-throw chances to tie the game at two all.
Coastal Georgia went on a 10-point streak to advance their lead to 12-2, after sinking two baskets from beyond the line.
With 14:50 remaining in the first half, SEU went on a four-point run. Morrow lead the Fire's attack as he scored all six points for Southeastern.
Coastal Georgia lead 16-9 with 13 minutes to go in the half. Southeastern went on a 20-point run to earn the first lead change of the game, and a 29-16 advantage over the Mariners.
The Fire's streak was broken by player Jaylan Patrick who sunk both of his free-throw attempts. With 3:18 left to go, Coastal Georgia earned back some points as they went on a five-point run, cutting the deficit by six.
At halftime, the Fire lead 35-29 against the Mariners. Morrow lead the team with 14 points and 5-5 FT's. Leading CCGA's offense was Patrick with a total of 10 points and four rebounds. Both teams were tied at 11 field-goals made.
The Mariners would look to turn the game around as they opened the half with a five-point streak to cut the lead to one.
A shot beyond the arc by Jaylen Smallwood would give the Mariners a 41-39 lead. The second lead change of the game.
Senior center, Devon Ford tied the game 41 all with a lay-up. Then, shortly after, Jeremy Oppenheimer shot a one-handed jumper to regain the lead with approximately 15 minutes remaining in the second frame.
Southeastern finished the remainder of the game always having the advantage. Back-to-back three pointers by Oppenheimer and Alaowei Talent-Fitzgerald helped SEU take a 14-point lead.
At the final buzzer, Southeastern earned a 74-64 victory over Coastal Georgia, and advanced to 4-1 overall on the season.
Morrow was the only player who scored double-digits for the Fire as he obtained 28 points on the evening. The senior guard shot perfect at the free throw line, as he sunk all of his 11 attempts.
Oppenheimer was the second leader on the team with nine points. He lead the team with a total of four assists.
Transfer from Daytona State, Karl Jeanty lead the Fire with nine rebounds and five steals.
The Fire will be back in action on Saturday November 23rd, as they play Thomas in Thomasville, Ga. Game is set to start at 4 p.m.
