Volleyball Wins Second-Straight Match against First-Place Team

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.—The Fire have had enough of five-set matches.

Having already played six in their first 16 matches, the Fire were staring a seventh in the eyes down 24-20 in the fourth.

Southeastern responded by winning the final six rallies of the match for a 3-1 victory at Sun Conference co-leader Florida Memorial Wednesday night.

The Fire (12-5, 5-3 TSC) have now won four straight, with half of that win streak against teams at the top of the conference leaderboard.

Southeastern was the beneficiary of nine Florida Memorial attacking errors and four service errors in the first set in a 25-22 victory.

Senior Emily Kalmink was a big factor in the early going, getting five kills, and two blocks in the first set on her way to a career-high 16 kills. Kalmink recorded a team-best .448 attacking percentage as well.

Florida Memorial (12-6, 6-2) got off to a strong start, winning seven of the first eight rallies of the set. The Fire were able to battle back later in the set, going on a 5-2 run to lead 15-14. A pair of 4-0 runs later in the set by the Lions got them a 25-20 win.

A 6-0 run in the third put the Fire up 10-6, which set the tone for a stanza the Fire had control of by as much as seven at one point, hitting .200 as a team, and forcing seven FMU attack errors in a 25-20 win.

The Lions held a 21-13 lead in the fourth, and had a 24-20 advantage, but were unable to hang on. Emily Boehlein had a pair of kills in the final six points for SEU, and the match ended on Kalmink's 16th kill of the night.

Boehlein finished with six kills, three blocks, and two digs. Sarah Castillo dished out 36 assists, and had a team-best three aces. Hannah Kaszubowski added 17 digs, seven kills, and an ace.

The Fire will host William Carey Friday night for a non-conference match before seeing the Lions again on Saturday.
