LAKELAND, Fla. - Southeastern women's volleyball team is now 13-5 overall, as they earned a victory over William Carey in a non-conference competition Friday evening. The Fire finished the Crusaders in three sets, their sixth sweep of the season.
The first set between the Fire and Crusaders was filled with action, as there were 10 lead changes and 18 ties seen in the initial set.
The game was toe-to-toe at the beginning of the set, with both teams battling to get ahead. The biggest lead was a three-point advantage by Southeastern. The Crusaders not easily giving up, fought to tie the game, and take the lead over the Fire. With the game tied at 26-26, Southeastern would secure the last two points to secure a 28-26 victory over William Carey in the first.
Southeastern's attack was led by freshman, Baylee Warneke who tallied five kills and a hitting percentage of .444. SEU finished the first set with a total of 15 kills.
The Fire looking to continue their momentum, and record the win at home, outscored their opponents 50-35 in the last two sets. Southeastern shut down William Carey in the second set 25-20 and then in the third set 25-15. SEU have now won five games consecutively.
SEU played critical defense recording a total of nine blocks in the three sets of play. Senior-captain, Emily Kalmink recorded three assisted blocks on the evening. Taylor Gregory and Emily Boehlein obtained one solo block and four assisted blocks each, totaling ten altogether. Sarah Castillo, Hannah Kaszubowski, and Warneke each added an block to their names as well.
Outstanding for the Fire this evening was junior, Boehlin who obtained a total of 10 kills and a hitting percentage of .381. Also a key player coming into the game for Southeastern was Jessica Hidden who on two attempts earned two kills and ending the evening with a perfect hitting percentage.
TSC setter of the week, Castillo finished the game with 22 out of the 30 assists for the Fire.
Southeastern will return to action tomorrow, October 12th as they take on Florida Memorial at the Furnace. The game is set to start at 6 p.m.
