LAKELAND, Fla. - The No. 4 ranked Southeastern University women's soccer team defeated Johnson & Wales 6-1 this Saturday afternoon. The Fire advance to 9-2 overall the season, and remain undefeated in conference play.
The first goal for the Fire was in the 32nd minute, when a cross from Siobhan Longmore was an easy tap in for mildfielder, Bania Duran. Older sister and defenseman for the Fire, Isamar Duran recorded an assist on the play as well. Bania has recorded five goals on the season so far.
Less than three minutes later, Southeastern striked again as a cross from Chloe Martin was headed in my SEU's leading goal scorer Uchenna Kanu.
In the 39th minute, Longmore was fouled in the box which led to a penalty shot for the Fire. Kanu would take the PK and record her 21st goal on the season. Southeastern would go into the break with a 3-0 advantage over the Wildcats.
After half time, Southeastern would get on the board again as Kanu scored an unassisted goal. Senior forward, Kanu has scored 22 goals in 11 appearances.
Senior-transfer, Longmore would score her first goal of the season in the 59th minute from the assist by Kanu to take a 5-0 lead over Johnson & Wales.
Senior, Skyler Streets would score five minutes after, her third goal of the season from a pass by Kanu. Streets has appeared in four games on the season, scoring three goals in four appearances.
With 15 minutes left in the game, the leading goal scorer in the NAIA, Savannah Jackson would obtain her 24th goal of the season.
Southeastern tallied a total of 20 shots, in comparison to Johnson & Wales six shots in the game. Both goalkeepers secured four saves in this afternoon's match.
Coach Randy Belli commented, "We were short handed due to national team call ups and we had several players in different roles. The players embraced the challenge with a team first mentality and grinded out a great result."
Southeastern will return to action on October 9th as they go on the road to play Webber International. The game is set to start at 2:30 p.m.
