BABSON PARK, Fla.- The No. 4 Southeastern University women's soccer team continues to dominate its way through Sun Conference play. The Fire took down the Webber International University Warriors 7-0 to improve to 10-2 on the season, including 4-0 in Sun Conference play. This marks the first 4-0 TSC start in program history. The Fire have now outscored Sun Conference opponents 28-1 thus far in 2019.
Senior midfielder
Bania Duran shined for the Fire, notching her first collegiate hat trick with three goals scored.
"My teammates gave me so much positive support today," shared Duran. "Without their cheerful spirits I could not have done what I did today."
After an hour and five minutes of lightning delay, it did not take SEU long to find the back of the net on the wet, muddy pitch.
Senior forward
Uchenna Kanu put two goals past the Warriors in the 6
th and 10
th minutes. The first was a beautiful header off the corner kick from senior forward
Rachel Wallace. The second was a rocket far post off a cross from junior forward
Aisha Solorzano.
Duran netted her first goal of the day in the 26
th minute, finishing a short pass from Wallace in the box.
The Fire took the 3-0 advantage over the Warriors into the half.
"It was a total team effort. Every player that was healthy played in the game," commented head coach
Randy Belli. "It was a very good effort by a lot of players today."
It only took
Bania Duran 2:38 into the second half to cement the hat trick, scoring goals in the 54
th and 56
th minutes. The second was a high header off a fantastic cross from senior defender
Siobhan Longmore.
Freshman forward
Katelyn Edwards netted the first goal of her collegiate career in the 76
th minute. Edwards finished a long ball over the top from graduate center back
Isamar Duran far post to put SEU ahead 6-0.
Isamar Duran capped off the scoring by belting a free kick from 35 yards out through the WIU keeper's hands into the back of the net.
Goalkeepers
Holly Eddins and
Maddy Miller combined to record the sixth clean sheet of the season for SEU and their third shutout in TSC play.
Southeastern travels to West Palm Beach next Wednesday for a monumental TSC showdown at the No. 1 Keiser University Seahawks. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m.
