Game Day: #19 Southeastern (5-1) vs. Warner (1-5)

Fire look to bounce back from road loss with Homecoming contest

LAKELAND, Fla.—Outside of the lone blemish on the Southeastern record, things are trending the way of the Fire this evening.

The Fire have never lost back-to-back regular season games, have never lost on Homecoming, nor have they ever lost to Warner.

There's still plenty of motivation for the balance of the season, as the Fire are still in the running for a fifth-straight conference title and possibly a playoff berth. They will need some help from Webber International, St. Thomas, and or Ave Maria, but with a No. 19 ranking, the Fire are still alive in the NAIA FCS picture.

Turnovers were the key in SEU's 42-29 loss at Keiser Saturday. It was the first time the Fire lost in Cooper Jones' 10 career starts. Southeastern also generated just one turnover in its favor, and for the first time this season, did not record an interception.

Warner is looking to end a two-game slide, most recently, a 51-20 loss to Faulkner last Friday night. Special teams miscues plagued the Royals, as all three of their first half punts were blocked with two returned for touchdowns, and an extra point blocked returned for a safety.

The Fire offense, ranked 11th in the NAIA in scoring, will be looking to take advantage of a Warner defense that ranks 20th in the 22-team Mid-South Conference in scoring.

On defense, SEU will need to keep tabs on junior running back Javon Wilson, who is fourth in the Mid-South in rushing per game at 89.8 yards per game.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Victory Field, with the annual postgame fireworks show scheduled for shortly after the conclusion of the contest. Tickets can be purchased in advance. Fans should be cautioned that just a limited supply may be available at the Victory Field box office.
