CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Racing alongside Division I and Division II competition, the Fire cross country teams held their own in the Royals Cross Country Challenge held at McApline Park.
The Fire women finished 16th overall, second among NAIA teams with a total time of 1:35:13. On the men's side, Southeastern finished 32nd overall, fifth among NAIA teams with a total time of 2:15:39.
Sophomore Julia Rohm finished with the third fastest time in program history at 18:20, finishing 31st overall. Following Rohm was senior Macy Peterson with a time of 19:05, placing her 107th. Right behind her were freshman Liliana Baker and junior Kelsi Ogilvie, with Baker finishing at 19:13 and Ogilvie at 19:15. Freshman Emma McLaughlin finished next for the Fire with a time of 19:19.
For the men, freshman John Perez-Dunn finished first for the Fire with a time of 26:21, good for 146th place. Sophomore Luke Kathman was the next to finish for Southeastern clocking in at 27:12, placing him 239th. Freshman Stephen Ward was just behind Kathman, placing 254th with a time of 27:17. Sophomore Christopher Pinedo and junior Jordan Gonzalez finished 262nd and 264th, with Pinedo finishing at 27:22 and Gonzalez at 27:24.
The two squads will next race on October 26th when they compete in the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge.
