LAKELAND, Fla.—The Fire had two 100-yard backs in a 78-0 win over UGC Saturday night at Victory Field.
Keland White was the game's top rusher, gaining 187 yards on 14 carries, scoring on two 20+ yard runs in the first half.
Tyrell Williams was efficient, scoring three times on three short touchdown runs in the first quarter.
In the second half,
Deshawn Brown rushed for 136 yards on just nine carries, scoring on a 70-yard run on the first play of the fourth quarter and again on a two-yard run with 6:41 to play, and a 13-yard run with 43 seconds to play.
"We really wanted to improve our effort in the run game and we worked hard on it this week," said coach
Keith Barefield. "I thought our backs came out and ran really hard, and if we can eliminate the turnovers and the run game continues to improve, that will help us be a little bit better ball club."
Three different quarterbacks combined to go 11-of-18 for 149 yards with
Ryder Litten tossing a 50-yard touchdown to
Sam Bruce and
Cooper Jones finding Bruce for a nine yard score, culminating with Bruce summersaulting over a defender over the goal line.
On defense, the Fire posted 17 tackles for loss, with
Isaiah Winter leading the way with two. The SEU defense had four takeaways, and limited UGC to 139 yards on 64 plays.
Southeastern returns to action next Saturday at Cincinnati Christian.
