Despite the initial setback of their loss to the University of the Cumberlands in their season opener, the Fire appear determined to claw their way back to having a winning season. They triumphed over St. Andrews University 38-21 and are now prepared to take on Cincinnati Christian University to bolster their standings.
In two games, the Fire offense has moved the ball over seven hundred yards, nearly half of them made possible by quarterback Ryder Litten, who has thrown for 339 yards and three passing touchdowns. Running back Tyrell Williams has also lent a hand in the Fire's offensive success, rushing for 125 positive yards and two touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Lamont Trent leads the team in tackles with 21 to his name, and defensive lineman Mike Mitchell is sporting 1.5 sacks for a loss of 6.5 yards.
The Eagles have had their own stretch of misfortune, losing three times in their last three games, first to Union College, then to undefeated University of the Cumberlands, and finally to Bluefield College. But while they have been defeated, they have not sat idly by on the gridiron. Running back Chris Young boasts 314 positive rushing yards for the CCU offense, and on defense, linebacker Tyler Shobe has been in on 20 tackles, including three tackles for loss.
The game begins at 1:30 pm on September 15th, at Stargell Field.
