Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Warren Johnson

Senior Night results in Shutout Victory

Women's Soccer defeats the Sand Sharks

Once again, women's soccer has proven itself a dominant team and have ended the week on a shutout victory, defeating the USC Beaufort Sand Sharks 4-0. This marks the eleventh shutout win for the Fire.

This victory happened on the women's soccer Senior Night, and the team took time before the match to honor the nine seniors on their roster; Autumn Morrell, Isamar Duran, Gabriella Didio, Jai Sterling, Lynsey Kelly, Megan Penhaligon, Jamie Green and Melissa Corrie. With the exception of Sterling, all the senior players saw time in tonight's match, and two contributed to the four goal total.

Kelly struck first for the Fire, netting the first goal in the 30th minute, putting the ball just off the fingertips of the Sand Sharks' goalie and into the back of the net. Team high scorer Uchenna Kanu scored the next two goals, the first after a pass from Aisha Solorzano after 37 minutes, and the second just before the end of the half, after she headed in a long pass from Penhaligon. The final goal was scored by Duran, for her first goal of the season.

The Fire defense barely let the Sand Sharks on their side of the field, not allowing them to get off even a single shot on goal, while the offense had a total of 27 shots over the 90 minutes of play.

The next match will be an away game against Warner University, in Lake Wales, on the 24th. Game time is 7 p.m.
