LAKELAND, Fla. – On an evening where the Fire outshot their opponent 35-0, the No. 20 Southeastern University women's soccer team blanked the Columbia International University Rams 3-0 to improve to 5-0 on the season.
With the win, Southeastern finished a perfect 2-0 on the SEU Soccer Invitational.
The Fire were unable to execute on a plethora of first half scoring chances. SEU outshot CIU 15-0 in the half with 10 shots on frame, yet the match remained scoreless at the half.
It only took 39 seconds for the Fire to find the back of the net in the second half. Sophomore forward
Uchenna Kanu rocketed one in off the short pass from junior midfielder
Nicole Shaffer to put SEU up 1-0.
Kanu was not finished, planting one in the top right corner of the net in the 82
nd minute on a penalty kick near the finish line for her 11
th goal of the season. The Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Week leads the NAIA in goals (11), assists (5), and points (27).
Southeastern added another late goal in the 85
th minute when
Konya Plummer kicked in her own deflected shot for her third score of 2017.
With the win, the Fire have won 15 straight on their home pitch, having not lost at the SEU Soccer Field since 10/3/15.
"I didn't think we played very sharp today, but I'm happy that when you're not playing sharp and the ball is not falling your way you can still get a result like this. I'm proud of the girls for persevering," shared Head Coach

Southeastern is slated next to take on NCAA DII Eckerd College in St. Petersburg this Saturday. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
