Box Score NORTH MIAMI, Fla - The Fire men's soccer team has suffered their fair share of adversity this season, but today provided a refreshing change of pace. Southeastern shut out a red-hot Johnson and Wales team by a score of 2-0 to end their five game win streak.
In the opening minutes of play, Johnson and Wales seemed as though they would dictate the pace of play for the duration of the match. However, in the twentieth minute, the Fire capitalized on a turnover deep in Wildcat territory which allowed
Gustavo Rodrigues freedom to deliver a top-shelf strike to the back of the net.Â
Southeastern went into the locker room with a 1-0 lead at the half. As the teams took the field for the remaining 45 minutes of play, the Wildcats attempted to recompose themselves for the second half. The gameplan was to feed the ball to Greg McDoom, but the Wildcat passing efforts were disrupted by stellar Fire defense.Â
Midway through the second half, the Fire tacked on an insurance goal.
Grayson Wilkes received a corner kick off the foot of Rodrigues and executed a header into the vinyl. Â
Netminder
Jorge Navarrete spearheaded an outstanding defensive performance by the Fire. With his efforts, the native of Plant City, Florida recorded his second shutout of the year. Â
The Fire are back in action on Wednesday, October 4th when they travel to Hardeeville, South Carolina to take on the SCAD Bees.
