Softball Splits in Gulf Shores

GULF SHORES, Ala.—The Fire suffered their second loss to No. 10 William Carey, but bounced back with a win over No. 18 Houston-Victoria to start play at the Gulf Coast Invitational.

The SEU offense was held to three hits in a 3-0 loss to William Carey in the first game.

The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when William Carey took a 2-0 lead with the help of two hits and a sacrifice fly.

The Crusaders added an extra run on a dropped fly ball in the seventh.

Against Houston-Victoria, a throwing error in the first put the Fire in a one-run hole, but pitcher Lindsie Scholwinski was able to keep the Jaguar bats at bay.

The senior scattered five hits and struck out six in seven innings of work to get the win.

Southeastern was able to answer back in the second with a leadoff double by Kiah Ferrell, who scored on Alex Millett's single.

Another leadoff single in the third by Heather Faulk resulted in a run on a fielder's choice. Two more runs were plated in the fourth on an RBI single by Hannah Smith, and Sammy Jacobson stealing home.

The Fire will face No. 14 Martin Methodist and No. 20 Central Methodist on Saturday.
