AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The No. 7 Southeastern University baseball team dropped just its second contest of the season in its first game of a two game split at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex. SEU fell to the Concordia (Mich.) University Cardinals 2-1 in a seven inning game.
The Fire garnered their lone run of the game in the bottom of the first. Senior infielder
Luis Diaz led off the inning with a triple, his seventh of the season, giving him the sole lead on triples in the NAIA. Diaz scored off the grounder by senior catcher
Gerald Ceballos to give SEU the 1-0 lead.
Senior southpaw
Kade Wagner had an electric start to his outing today. Wagner sat down the first six Concordia batters he faced via strikeout. The Riverton, Utah native finished the day with nine punch outs total.
However, the Cardinals did all the damage they needed to with one swing of the bat. In the top of the third, Concordia right fielder Jacob Maas cranked an inside pitch on the 2-2 count over the right field fence to give the Cardinals a 2-1 advantage.
The Fire were unable to muster up any offense during the remainder of action, as the SEU bats were a combined .143 (2-14) at the plate during the fourth through seventh frames.
Both losses by SEU this season have taken place at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.
The Fire will look to bounce back this evening as they take on the Mount Marty Lancers at 7:30 p.m. The game will take place at Lake Myrtle on Field Six.
