Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – In what was the largest margin of victory in a Sun Conference regular season game in program history, the No. 11 Southeastern University Fire bounced back with a resounding 7-0 victory over the Florida Memorial Lions.
Leading the way for the Fire today was sophomore defender
Konya Plummer, who notched a career high four goals in the victory. This is the second time this season an SEU player has scored four goals in one game with
Uchenna Kanu performing the same feat earlier in the season versus Evangel.
"It was a blessing to be out there. I went out there and just did my best. We executed well as a team today," shared Plummer.
Plummer's goals came in the 25
th, 45
th, 46
th, and 52
nd minutes. The Epsom, St. Mary, Jamaica native remarkably only played 29 minutes in the match. Her goals were assisted by
Nicole Shaffer,
Bania Duran,
Megan Penhaligon, and Kanu.
Kanu also kicked off the scoring for the Fire, netting her 16
th goal of the season after pushing a short through ball from
Isamar Duran past the keeper in the 16
th minute.
Another high note for Southeastern was the impact of freshman midfielder
Isabel Madson. The Brandon native netted the first goal of her collegiate career in the 37
th minute off excellent build up play from
Heidi Ruth and Duran. The score put the Fire up 3-0 going into the half.
Madson mania was not over yet, as the freshman beautifully headed a ball into the back of the net off a well-timed cross from
Aisha Solorzano to put SEU up 7-0 in the 77
th minute.
"A lot of times you just celebrate a result like that. I think there a lot of things we can improve upon from today. Hopefully we can take those things back to the training ground and get better for future results," commented Head Coach
Randy Belli.
25 different members of the Fire squad registered minutes in the match.
Southeastern looks to continue the momentum on the road, as the Fire travel to Thomasville to take on Thomas University. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
