NEW ORLEANS—In the first road trip of the season, the Fire women's basketball team secured an 80-63 victory over Loyola (La.) University to improve to 2-0.
Southeastern held the Wolfpack (1-1) to just 31% from the field, and 26% from 3-point range.
The Fire trailed by two after one quarter (21-19), despite leading by as many as seven in the frame, but scored the first eight points of the second to take a six-point advantage.
The lead hit double-digits with 1:35 left in the second quarter on a basket by
Jaycee Coe to give the Fire a 38-27 lead. Coe was one of five SEU players in double figures, scoring 13, grabbing six rebounds, a steal, and a block.
Halee Printz's basket with 18 seconds left gave the Fire a 42-31 at the half. The Toledo transfer had a game-high eight assists.
During the second quarter, the Fire outscored Loyola 23-10, then outscored the Wolfpack 23-15 in the third to take command of the contest.
Loyola got the deficit to seven with 7:33 left in the third, thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers, but Coe answered with a triple of her own to spark an 8-0 run.
Ana Richter's bucket with 6:50 left put SEU up 49-37. She finished with a team-high 17 points, and added six rebounds and five assists.
Maja Michalska added one of her four 3-pointers on the night during the run, and finished with 14 points and four rebounds off the bench. Another three by Michalska with 1:34 to play gave Southeastern its first 20-point lead (76-56).
Emma Karamovic added 14 points, four rebounds, and five assists on 6-of-10 shooting from the field.
Anissa Toumi added 13 points, two rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal off the bench in just over 25 minutes of play.
The Fire return to action Sunday afternoon to take on Xavier (La.) in their final game of the trip to Louisiana.
