Women’s Basketball Goes Unbeaten in NOLA Trip

Balanced effort leads to third win of the season

Box Score NEW ORLEANS—The basket looked like the size of Lake Ponchartrain Sunday afternoon during Southeastern's 60-39 win over Xavier (La.).

The Fire finished the game 22-of-34 from the field, good for 64% to improve to 3-0 on the year.

In conjunction with the stellar shooting effort, the Fire locked down on defense, forcing 25 XULA turnovers, and holding the Gold Nuggets (0-2) to just 26% from the field.

Once again, Ana Richter was the top scorer for Southeastern, netting a game-high 15 points, making six of her seven field goal attempts.

Seven of those points came in the second quarter, when the Fire took over the contest, outscoring the Gold Nuggets 15-4 to hold a 28-13 lead at the intermission.

Xavier had its best production during the third period, scoring 15 points, to trail 50-28 after three quarters, and ended up winning the fourth quarter 11-10, but it wasn't enough as SEU scored 26 points off of Gold Nugget turnovers.

A total of 31 Fire miscues led to 16 Xavier points.

Jaycee Coe added 13 points to the winning effort, and Marlena Schmidt added 11 points and four rebounds. Emma Karamovic pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

Southeastern will host the Martinique National Team for an exhibition on Saturday at The Furnace.
