Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 10 Southeastern University women's soccer team continued to trek on in Sun Conference play, with a 4-1 downing of the Warner University Royals. The Fire have now won six straight in conference action.
Sophomore forward
Uchenna Kanu etched her name into the SEU record books, netting her sixth hat trick of the year. Her three goals tied Melissa Kennedy for the most single season goals in program history at 31.
Kanu put the Fire on the board in the 14
th minute, when she headed in a corner kick delivered by sophomore defender
Melanie Peyton. The assist was Peyton's fifth of the season.
In the 20
th minute, excellent build up play from graduate forward
Estefania Fuentes and freshman forward
Aisha Solorzano resulted in another score for Kanu. Fuentes played the ball out to Solorzano, who crossed it back for another Kanu header.
The Abia, Nigeria native capped off her first half hat trick in the 33
rd minute, when she breezed a penalty kick past the Warner keeper. This marked the second time this season Kanu has had a half trick in the first 45 minutes.
Warner responded after the half with a breakaway goal in the 60
th minute to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Southeastern retaliated in the 73
rd minute when sophomore defender
Konya Plummer moved up top and volleyed a ball into the top shelf for her 11
th goal of the season.
"I don't think we played particularly well tonight, but it's nice when your team can grind out a win even when you don't have your best performance," shared Head Coach
Randy Belli, who earned his 30
th career win tonight.
The Fire conclude the 2017 regular season on Saturday as they host Ave Maria for Senior Night. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
