Big Day on Offense helps Volleyball Stay Hot

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—The Fire volleyball team has now won its last five matches, and nine of its last 10 after a 3-0 win at Keiser Saturday.

Redshirt freshman Kiana Sawtelle helped power the offense, recording a match-high 13 kills, and added nine digs and a block with a .476 attacking percentage.

She played a big part in SEU's team .415 attacking percentage, and helped the Fire average 17 kills per set. The Fire committed just 12 attack errors on 94 swings.

Sawtelle recorded seven of SEU's 16 kills in the first set to help the Fire take a 1-0 lead with a 25-22 win.

The Fire trailed 4-1 in the second set, but were able to rally to take a 9-7 lead, thanks to some timely hitting from Kaity Reed, who had four of her 12 kills in that run. Southeastern went on to build an 18-14 advantage, but the Seahawks got back within one at 20-19. Kills by Kelsey Morton and Sawtelle put the Fire over the top for another 25-22 win.

In the third set, the Fire broke a 5-5 deadlock with a 7-0 run to separate themselves and take control of the set. Kaitlin Boyd and Reed each had two kills during the run to power the offense.

Reed also added seven digs and two blocks to the winning effort to go along with her .409 attacking percentage. Boyd was also in double figures with 11 kills, and hit .688 on 16 swings. The senior was also in on two blocks.

Making the offense run was setter Natalie Anderson, who recorded 46 assists on SEU's 51 kills.

Keniah Rivera Santiago led the back line with 10 digs, and also had three assists.

Southeastern returns home on Wednesday to take on Ave Maria at 7 p.m.
