Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – On a night where the rain poured down, the No. 12 Southeastern women's soccer team completed a perfect week on the road in Sun Conference play, blanking the RV St. Thomas University Bobcats 2-0. The shutout was the seventh of the season for SEU, and handed STU its first loss of the season.
Both teams created their fair share of chances in the opening half. Freshman forward
Aisha Solorzano rattled off both of the Fire's shots on frame in the half.
The Bobcats registered four shots on goal in the first half, however, senior goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Romero stifled any hopes of STU getting on the board first. Romero recorded four crucial first half saves and went on to tie her career high with eight total saves on the night.
The Fire and the Bobcats entered the half deadlocked 0-0.
SEU dictated possession from the onset of the second half and were rewarded with a barrage of chances. The Fire attempted four shots in the first five minutes of the half.
Southeastern broke through in the 51
st minute, when Solorzano delivered a well penetrated pass to junior forward
Shayna Cole in the box, who poked the ball past the keeper for her second goal of the season.
The Fire quickly added to their lead just 1:03 later, as junior midfielder
Isamar Duran slipped in Solorzano, who drove home a hard finish to the near post for the first goal of her collegiate career.
"This was a fantastic team performance tonight. Our pressure created a lot of quality chances and I am glad we earned this result," shared Head Coach
Randy Belli.
The 18 shots Southeastern attempted on the night were the most surrendered by St. Thomas this season. The 17 shots attempted by the Bobcats tied their season low.
The Fire return to their home pitch on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. for a showdown with SCAD.
