MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.—Southeastern lost its second match to St. Thomas in two weeks, dropping a 3-0 match to the No. 21 Bobcats.
The Bobcats cruised to a 25-8 win in the first set behind eight service aces, in addition to a .476 team attacking percentage.
Southeastern kept the second set much closer, winning two set points before dropping the set 25-20. The Bobcats recorded three more aces in the second set.
In the third set, the Fire led for the first time in the match, taking a 9-4 lead thanks to three blocks by Uche Kojo and two kills by
Kelsey Morton during a 6-0 run. A 10-3 run by the Bobcats gave them back the lead for good at 15-13.
The Fire tried to make a late run, down 24-19 with four straight points to make it 24-23, but a kill by STU's Marisa Markus ended the match.
Southeastern was outhit .347 to .190, totaling just 27 kills during the afternoon. Junior
Kaitlin Boyd recorded a third of them, racking up nine kills and a block. Kojo was in on seven total blocks during the match.
Senior
Lydia Rooth was the only player in double figures in digs with 10.
The Fire return to action on Tuesday at home for a non-conference match with Trinity College at 7 p.m.
