LAKE WALES, Fla.—The trip to Warner started out promising for the Southeastern volleyball team, scoring a win in the first set, but following the second, it was clear it wasn't going to be easy.
Warner rallied back from a 2-1 deficit to win the fourth and fifth sets to come away with a key Sun Conference victory over Southeastern.
The Fire (7-4) hit .432 with 19 kills in the first set to come away with a 25-21 win. Warner wasn't far behind at .333 with 16 kills in the first. The Royals took the second set 25-15, jumping out to an early 6-1 lead. In that set, the Fire mustered just a .032 hitting percentage with seven kills.
Southeastern bounced back to win the third 25-22, rallying back from an early 5-1 deficit. Junior
Kelsey Morton recorded four of her 14 kills in the third set.
The Fire struggled to hit once again in the fourth, hitting .069 as a team in a 25-18 loss, then hit .087 in the deciding set, losing 15-8.
Lydia Rooth was the team's top attacker with 15 kills, and was one of five SEU players with 10 or more digs, totaling 16.
Alyssa Prescott had a team high 19 digs, with Morton (13),
Kaitlin Boyd (12), and
Lindsey Fleming (10) joining her in double figures.
Fleming had 42 assists as well.
The Fire return to action on Saturday with a road trip to Miami Gardens to face St. Thomas.
