Lakeland, Fla.-- The Fire dominated Florida Memorial at home in three sets (25-19, 25-10, 25-23).
Throughout the first set, Southeastern and Florida Memorial battled back and forth until they were deadlocked at 15. The Fire then went on a 10-4 run, powered by two kills and a service ace by Kaitlin Boyd. This type of play, along with only one attacking error, enabled Southeastern to close out the first set by a score of 25-19.
At the beginning of the second set, the Fire came out swinging. Southeastern started the game on a 14-2 run, which was fueled by seven serves in a row from Alyssa Prescott. During the seven point span, Kelsey Morton recorded three kills and a block. She finished the game with nine kills and one and a half blocks. The Fire out-hit the Lions .435 to -.130 in the set to win it in commanding fashion, 25-10.
Florida Memorial made the third set of the match interesting. The Lions, led by Jessica Medina who had 12 kills in the match, out-hit Southeastern .250 to .167 in the set, took a 23-22 lead late. However, the Fire were able to overcome the deficit and win the set 25-23.
Uche Kojo added to her conference-leading 38 blocks, as she stuffed two Florida Memorial attacks in the contest. Kaitlin Boyd ended the match with nine kills and a hitting percentage of .500, which helped propel the Fire to victory.
Southeastern will look to carry the momentum generated from this competition into their next matchup, a road game against Warner University on September 21st at 7pm.
