In their first matchup of the season against Florida College, Southeastern battled their way to a 3-0 home victory (25-17, 25-21, 25-21).
An 11-4 run to start off the game allowed the Fire to distance themselves from the Falcons early. Senior Lindsey Fleming led the Fire with 33 assists, without registering a single error, while also adding four kills and seven digs in the match. This contributed to a relatively easy win for the Fire in the first set.
In the second set, more of the same skillful play resulted in a .375 hitting percentage and another set win for Southeastern. Lydia Rooth and Kelsey Morton continued to impress on the offensive side, as they recorded 13 and 12 kills respectively. Morton also added three and a half blocks.
The Falcons stormed back in the third set, taking the lead multiple times. Abigail Hodges had 10 kills to go along with Rachel Tharp's match-high 19 kills. However, due to blocks and a few crucial aces late in the game, Southeastern was able to pull away to take the set 25-21, and the match in straight sets.
The Fire will be back in action at home on Saturday, as they take on Florida Memorial at 2pm.
