In their first Sun Conference match of the season, Southeastern lost in three sets to #21 St. Thomas (25-17, 25-16, 25-20).
The Bobcats came out swinging as they recorded a .536 hitting percentage with 18 kills in the first set. This led to a relatively easy win to put the Bobcats up 1-0. No St.Thomas player had more than nine kills in the match, but they were efficient on offense when they attacked.
A low hitting percentage coupled with attack errors proved fatal for the Fire in the second set, in which they were held to only 16 points, a match low.
In the third set, the Fire found some of their offense but St. Thomas was able to pull away late and come away with the victory by a score of 25-20.
Senior
Lydia Rooth and junior
Kelsey Morton accounted for over half of the team's kills in the match, with 12 and eight respectively. Rooth and Morton, along with
Alyssa Prescott, contributed to Southeastern's defense, as they each recorded at least seven digs. Uche Kojo added three blocks and
Lindsey Fleming had 27 assists, both match highs.
The Fire will be back at home on Thursday at 7pm as they take on Florida College.
