Fire Rally to Secure Second Straight TSC Title

BABSON PARK, Fla.—For a second straight season, the Southeastern University softball team will enter The Sun Conference Tournament as the No. 1 seed.

With a 5-3 win in the first game of Friday's doubleheader over second place Webber International, the Fire clinched the regular season championship.

Trailing 3-0 after the first inning, the Fire offense heated up in the top of the third, scoring Heather Faulk on an error, an RBI single by Cheyenne Blaha, and scoring Bri Girardin on a throwing error to tie the game. An RBI single by Brandee Pietrzak gave the Fire a 4-3 lead.

The Fire added an insurance run in the top of the sixth on the third Webber error of the day, which allowed Taylor Stoltz to reach base and Annie Weaver to score from second.

After giving up a three-run home run in the bottom of the first, Lindsie Scholwinski pitch six shutout innings, allowing a total of five hits with no walks and eight strikeouts. The junior coaxed 11 groundouts and two flyouts.

In the second game, three unearned runs in the bottom of the first gave the Warriors an early 3-0 lead, on the way to a 4-1 win, giving the Fire their first loss in conference play.

SEU scored its lone run of the game on an RBI single by Blaha in the top of the third. She finished the game 2-for-3.

The Fire return to action on Thursday against Ave Maria for Senior Day at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
