Box Score 2 LAKELAND, Fla.—After experiencing a 13-game win streak, the Fire baseball team is now in the midst of a three-game losing streak.
Southeastern dropped both games of its doubleheader this afternoon to fifth-ranked USC Beaufort 12-7 and 8-5, falling to 30-17 on the year.
The Sand Sharks jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first game after four innings of play, getting four home runs.
Much like Friday night's game, the Fire clawed back, getting three runs in the bottom of the fifth, needing just one hit to do so.
Diego Perez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, followed by a
Danny Acevedo sacrifice fly. The Fire also added a run on a throwing error.
Southeastern added three more in the bottom of the seventh when Perez hit an RBI double,
Zach Hessinger hit an RBI single, and
Chris Mattison hit an RBI single, making it 9-6 after seven.
However, USCB scored three of its own in the top of the eighth to keep the Fire at bay.
Things looked much more promising in the second game. With a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth,
Josiel Colon and
Danny Acevedo hit back-to-back home runs to take a 5-1 lead.
Again, USCB was able to answer, scoring three runs in the top of the fifth, then a solo home run in the top of the seventh to tie the game.
In the top of the ninth, the Sand Sharks scored three runs on three hits, and benefit from an error to rally back to win.
The Fire are back in action on Tuesday in a non-conference game at Warner at 4 p.m.
