Baseball Looking To Bounce Back

LAKELAND, FLA.-- It's now a four-game losing streak for Southeastern baseball, and it's not going to get any easier on Tuesday.  After getting swept by #15 Keiser in three games, the Fire will host #6 Davenport for a Tuesday doubleheader.  They'll have a few days to regroup until Cornerstone University comes to town for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

Against Keiser, the Fire lost by scores of 12-5, 9-3, and 4-3.  Chris Mattison slugged his seventh home run of the year, but it wasn't enough as the Fire pitching staff failed to contain the bats of the Seahawks.

On Tuesday, the sixth-ranked Davenport Panthers will come to Lakeland for a doubleheader.  The Panthers are 6-3 so far this season, most recently recording wins over Lindenwood-Belleville and Point Park.  The high-octane Panthers offense is led by Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle; the junior is batting .433 and has an on base percentage of .485.  Junior outfielder Travis Bolin is batting .357 with three homers and nine RBI; Jeremy Vasquez is also batting .357, and Brandon Cable sports a .310 average with a home run.

The pitching staff for Davenport boasts a collective .286 ERA.  The staff is led by Corey Murphy, Bryan Saucedo, and Corey Sessions.  Through 17.1 innings, Murphy has a 2-0 record with a 3.12 ERA and 14 strikeouts.  Saucedo has a 1-1 record and a 2.53 ERA through 10.2 innings pitched.  Sessions has a 1-0 record and a zero ERA through nine innings pitched.

Game times for the Davenport series are set for 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

On Saturday, the Cornerstone University Golden Eagles will come to town for a two-game series.  The Golden Eagles are 0-6 so far this season, getting swept by Olivet Nazarene and Bryan College.

The Cornerstone offense is led by Travis Gordon and Brady Volmering.  Gordon is batting an even .400 so far this season with a .378 on base percentage.  Volmering is batting .333 with a .333 on base percentage and a pair of RBIs.

Game times are set for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
