Box Score 2 WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—During its second Sun Conference weekend series of the season, the Fire baseball team went 0-3, dropping Saturday's doubleheader to Keiser 9-3, then 4-3 in extra innings.
In the first game, the Seahawks got off to a quick start, scoring four in the bottom of the first.
Chris Mattison belted his seventh homer of the year in the top of the third, a two-run shot to right center to make it 4-2.
The junior finished the game 3-for-4.
An RBI single by
Mac LeBoeuf in the fifth made it a one-run game, but a two-run triple in the sixth, and a three-run eight by the Seahawks gave them their 10
th win of the year, improving pitcher Kyle Keatts to 3-0 on the year.
Keatts struck out seven Fire hitters without allowing a walk.
Brandon Goff fell to 1-3, giving up six earned on nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts in seven innings of work.
In the second game of the day, the Fire led 3-0 after five innings, thanks to a bases-loaded hit by pitch, an RBI groundout and a bases-loaded walk.
The Seahawks got a run in the sixth on an RBI single, then tied it in the seventh when reigning conference player of the year Keivan Berges hit a two-run single to left.
The Fire had runners at first and third with two outs in the top of the ninth, but a groundout ended the chance to take the lead.
In the bottom of the 10
th, a one-out single up the middle gave the Seahawks the win.
The Fire offense managed just four hits during the game.
Jordan Gard took a no-decision, hurling six innings of one-run ball, allowing eight hits, a walk, and struck out two.
The Fire return to action against their fourth ranked opponent of the season when they host No. 6 Davenport for a doubleheader on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
