LAKELAND, FLA.-- The Southeastern baseball team accomplished what they set out to do last week, and that win a series over Sun Conference rival Thomas University. They are now 12-6 and 2-1 in conference play.
On Friday, the Fire swept the daytime doubleheader by scores of 9-5 and 10-6. The bats combined for 19 runs on 19 hits;
Chris Mattison hit his fifth home run of the year and
Mike D'Acunti his his third.
Thomas took game three, 3-1. The Fire bats were snuffed out by Neal Hunter, who scattered five hits over eight innings.
This weekend, Southeastern will drive down West Palm Beach for another Sun Conference series; they'll play a three-game series against #15 Keiser University.
The Seahawks lost two of their three games against USC Beaufort and are now 7-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Southeastern's pitching staff will have to be careful with Keivan Berges. The outfielder is hitting .372 and is slugging .535. Brad Myott is hitting .359 with a pair of homers and 12 RBI.
Their staff is led by Steven Bruce; over 18 innings, the right-handed senior is 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA and 19 strikeouts. Another arm to look for is junior Kyle Keats; over 22 innings, the righty is 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA and 21 strikeouts.
Friday's game is set to start at 2 p.m. The final games of the series will be at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
