Saints Beat Fire in Three

After beating current Sun Conference leader, Webber International, at 2pm, St. Francis (Ill.) continued their dominant road trip by sweeping Southeastern (25-12, 27-25, 25-22).

The Fire struggled early as the Saints used an 11-1 run to jump out to a 14-6 lead. During this stretch the Fire committed a total of seven errors, while St. Francis hit an impressive .318, contributing to an insurmountable deficit. Southeastern eventually fell in the first set 25-12.

Momentum shifted back and forth in the second set as both teams battled to get the upper hand. Alyssa Prescott, who had a match-high 19 digs, tried to keep the Fire alive on the defensive side of the ball. However, despite her valiant effort, Southeastern dropped the second set by a close score of 27-25.

In the third set, the Fire started strong with a 6-1 run. Lindsey Fleming, who had 27 assists and 10 digs on the night, was an intricate part of the quick start. From there, St. Francis began to creep their way back into the set. They had a 6-1 run of their own late in the set to clinch the match 3-0. Brenna Perinar led the Saints' attack with 11 kills and an outstanding .500 hitting percentage, while Leah Alles added 15 digs for St. Francis.

For the Fire, Kelsey Morton and Uche Kojo had 11 kills and seven kills, respectively. Kojo also had a team-high .286 hitting percentage.

Southeastern will go on the road for their next matchup against Florida Memorial on October 22nd.
