LAKELAND, Fla. - In the third race of the season, the Southeastern Fire XC teams took on their county rival, the Warner Royals. Southeastern ran strong and captured first place on both the men's and women's sides. The meet was held at Holloway Park, one of the tougher tracks on the schedule; however, the setting did not intimidate Southeastern.
Leading the charge in the men's 6,000m race were Trae Miller and Micah Drum. Miller came in first place overall with an impressive time of 20:39. Shortly after Miller crossed the finish line, Drum stopped the clock in second place at 20:56. Rounding out the top three for the Fire was Jacob Pacifici with a time of 21:07. After the final score sheets were tallied, the Fire came out on top by a margin score of 11 points.
In the two mile race, the Fire women dominated the field. Incredibly, the top ten finishers were all Southeastern runners, with Sydni Ogilvie leading the way. Ogilvie crossed the finish line with an exciting time of 11:57. Stopping the clock at 12:03 in close second place was Fire's Julia Kaster. The Fire swept the podium as a result of Megan Fitzgerald's overall third place finish and time of 12:28.
The Fire men and women displayed commanding performances, making Coach Paul Kurtz extremely optimistic and proud.
"Their training and hard work is really beginning to kick in, and I am excited for the final two meets when they should be rested and racing on a fast course", said Kurtz.
Next on the schedule for Southeastern's XC teams is the Sand Shark Invitational, which will take place in South Carolina on October 22nd.
