Women's Basketball Rolls By Florida Memorial

LAKELAND, FLA.-- The Southeastern women's basketball team will go as far as Christin Strawbridge will take them.  In her fifth straight game, the junior forward recorded a double-double as the Fire downed the Florida Memorial University Lions by a score of 76-59.

With the win, the win streak is now at 10 straight games.  They now stand at 15-3 overall and improve to 6-1 in Sun Conference play.  Florida Memorial falls to 4-13 and 2-5 in conference play.

It didn't take long for the Fire to get going.  The offense shot 67% in the first period on 8-12 shooting; the Lions kept pace by shooting 2-4 from the arc and sinking all six of their free throws as the score was tied at 18 after the period. 

The second period featured more of the same hot shooting for Southeastern.  They shot 50% on 5-10 shooting from the field; Bailey Hooker dropped eight of her 14 points in the second period, including a pair of threes as the Fire took a 39-34 lead to the locker room.

Strawbridge took over in the third period and would not be denied.  The forward scored 10 points on her way to 18 on 9-11 shooting.  She also recorded 11 rebounds, six blocks, and a pair of assists.  The team as a whole had their most efficient shooting period, as the team 62% on 8-13 shooting.

By the final period, the Fire were starting to wear the Lions down, who came into the contest with only nine players on their roster.  The Fire outscored the Lions 17-10; the lead was by as many as 20 after a successful 3-pointer by Hooker at the 1:19 mark.

Alyssa Ramos finished with 16 points on 6-12 shooting; she recorded four rebounds and four assists as well.  Carlie Newman recorded eight points to go along with seven rebounds.  Ali Sanders scored eight points while bringing down three boards and dishing out three assists.

The Fire will continue their Sun Conference slate on Saturday afternoon as the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats will come to The Furnace.  Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
