Football Takes on Warner in TSC Opener

LAKELAND, Fla.—The second season of Sun Conference football kicks off on Saturday night at Lakeland Christian School when the Fire take on Warner at 7 p.m.

The Royals won the very first Sun Conference football game by beating Webber International 14-10 at Legion Field in the annual "Lake Caloosa Clash." A week later, the Fire picked up its first win in program history over Warner 31-7 in front of a capacity crowd at Victory Field.

Southeastern enters the matchup at 1-1, falling to NAIA No. 10 Faulkner 45-33 in the home opener for the Fire. Junior wide receiver Michael Wheary, a Lakeland Christian grad, is coming off of a Sun Conference record 245 yard receiving night with a pair of touchdowns. Monday, the Youngstown State transfer was named TSC Offensive Player of the Week.

Warner enters the matchup at 2-0 with convincing wins over Concordia (Ala.) and Union College (Ky.). Last week, the Royals rolled up 414 yards of total offense in a 42-21 win over Union. On defense, the Royals picked off a pair of passes and recovered a fumble.
