Rideout Powers win over #16 Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—The Fire kicked off their weekend series against #16 Embry-Riddle with an impressive 8-2 win on the road.

Senior starting pitcher Clay Rideout scattered five hits over his seven innings of work, allowing just one earned run. Rideout struck out two and walked for on 116 pitches.

Southeastern (33-16) jumped on offense early with an RBI single by Sean Anderson in the top of the second. The Fire came back with two more in the third off the bat of Anderson on a single through the left side of the infield to take a 3-0 lead.

The Fire broke the game open with a three-run fourth inning, two of which came on an RBI triple by Luis Diaz, who came around to score on an Eagle error.

Leading 6-2 in the top of the sixth, Willi Martin hit an RBI double to score Aaron Sheaks to give the Fire a five-run cushion. They added an additional run in the eighth on an RBI single to right by Josiel Colon.

Brandon Goff worked the final two innings in relief, retiring the final five batters he saw consecutively. The only base runner allowed was on a walk to the first batter he faced.

Sheaks finished the day 2-for-2 with three runs scored, drawing two walks. Colon was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Anderson was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.

The series continues tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
