Bats Power Fire Over Royals

Box Score

LAKE WALES, Fla. – After the Fire split a doubleheader with Warner on Saturday they took game three this afternoon, 12-2 in seven innings; the exact same score and duration as their first win of the series after falling 5-4 in game one.

Willi Martin and Cody Hoffner both had a day as each went 3-for-4 with three RBI's apiece. They teamed up with back-to-back home runs in the fifth for the Fire's most productive inning of the day.

With two on and no outs Martin crushed a three run homer to left and Hoffner followed with a solo shot to center. An unearned run to complete the inning put the Fire up 8-0 after four and a half.

An RBI single by Ricky DeArmas in the top of the first gave the Fire an early 1-0 lead.

Two scoreless innings followed before the Fire scored two in the fourth on an RBI single by Aaron Sheaks. He went on to score an unearned run due to a Warner error.

The Royals scored twice in the fifth after the Fire's five-run derby, then the day's scoring was topped off in the seventh with four Fire runs on three hits.

Jordan Gard went five of seven innings on the mound and gave up a single earned run on three hits and four walks. He is now 4-2 on the season.

The Fire return home to take the diamond tomorrow against Eckerd College at 6 p.m.
