Box Score LAKELAND, Fla.—For a second straight night, the Fire struggled at the plate. With just three hits in the first eight innings, the outlook was bleak for SEU, trailing Huntington 2-1.
Willi Martin's one-out single to left in the bottom of the ninth brought in two runs to give the Fire a 3-2 victory over the Foresters and clinch their 22nd win of the year.
In the SEU ninth, Hunter Bonner doubled to the gap in right-center field, then advanced to third on an infield single by Luis Diaz. Martin's shot down the line was deep enough to score Diaz from first. SEU doubled its total hits for the game in the inning, recording three.
Martin also got the Fire on the scoreboard for the first time in the game with a two-out solo home run to left-center on a 2-2 pitch to tie the game at one in the bottom of the fourth.
After Martin's homer, Huntington starting pitcher Kyle Zerfas retired 10 of the next 11 he saw, until Bonner stepped up to the dish.
