Box Score LAKELAND, Fla.—A cold night at the plate for the Fire and a big night by Mt. Vernon Nazarene gave the Cougars a 10-2 victory at Broer Stadium Tuesday night.
The Southeastern (21-11) offense was held to just five hits on the night. Conversely, the Mt. Vernon Nazarene (7-2) bats exploded for 16 hits.
The Cougars scored four runs off of Fire starter Cole Yoder in the first four innings. The Fire finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when Cody Hoffner came around to score on a balk. MVNU responded with three in its half of the sixth to take a 7-1 advantage.
A lead-off triple by Luis Diaz in the bottom of the seventh led to a run when Cody Hoffner grounded out to short. Again, the Cougars responded with three in the eighth off of Chase Hunt.
Diaz was responsible for two of the SEU hits in four at bats.
The Fire return to action Wednesday evening when they host Huntington University.
