Box Score LAKELAND, Fla.—The Fire baseball team moved to 8-4 in conference play with a 7-3 win over county rival Webber International in the first game of a three game weekend set.
Southeastern (20-9) got balanced help from the offense (11 hits), and timely outs from the pitching staff to secure the win.
Senior Patrick Kinney worked six innings on the hill, surrendering six hits and two walks, resulting in three runs, with just one earned. Kinney also struck out four batters on 106 pitches. Chase Hunt, Josh Egert, and F.T. Corso all gave up a hit each over the final three innings, but did not allow a run.
The Fire jumped on the board first in the bottom half of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Willi Martin, scoring Stetson McCollin. The Warriors (18-11) answered with two runs in the top of the third, using two hits and a Fire error to take the lead.
Southeastern came back in the second with three runs on an RBI single by Ricky DeArmas, an RBI double off the top of the center field fence by McCollin, and an RBI single by Luis Diaz. Again, the Warriors answered with a run in their half of the third, making it 4-3 through three.
An RBI double by Connor Oliveri scored Sean Anderson, who led off the fifth inning with a single gave the Fire a 5-3 lead. The Fire added two additional runs in the seventh on a sacrifice fly to score Cole Yoder, then an RBI single by Oliveri scored Cody Hoffner.
Oliveri finished the day 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, and Sean Anderson was 2-for-4 with a run scored. McCollin was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored on the day.
With the win, Kinney improved to 4-2 on the season.
The series resumes tomorrow at noon.
