Fire Baseball Wins Fifth Straight

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- In their final regular season contest, the Fire scored an 11-6 victory over Northwood to finish the year 40-14 and 20-7 in The Sun Conference.

With the win, the Fire also clinched the #2 seed in The Sun Conference Tournament taking place next week in Fort Meyers.

Southeastern grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Aldo Ferrante singled to left to score T.J. Glessner, and scored on a throwing error. The Seahawks made it a one-run game in the bottom of the inning on an RBI triple. Corbin Weeks led off the second with a solo homer, to push the lead back to two.

After Northwood tied the game with two runs in the fourth, Ferrante homered to left to put the Fire up 4-3. They added two more in the sixth on Stetson McCollin's triple to center field, scoring Ryne Knuth and Austin Davis. Again, the Seahawks answered with two runs, cutting the defecit to one after a home run by Chris Fahey.

The Fire added two in the eighth, with Luis Diaz, who doubled, coming around to score on a throwin error, and an RBI double by Knuth to score Hunter Bonner, who ran for Austin Davis following a fielder's choice. Southeastern picked up three more in the ninth to finish the night on a two-run double by Diaz and scored the final run when Diaz touched home on the sixth Northwood error of the game.

Andres Cancio earned the win, working 5.2 innings and allowing five runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking one. Patrick Kinney and Tyler Murphy each worked 1.2 innings in relief to help secure the victory.

Glessner and Diaz each finished with three hits apiece. Ferrante and Davis were both 2-for-4. McCollin, Ferrante, and Diaz all had two RBIs.

The Fire will travel to Polk State on Wednesday for an exhibition, before beginning The Sun Conference Tournament on Friday.
