Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The Fire maintained an undefeated season and clinched win number five after they defeated Clearwater Christian this evening, 102-59.
The Cougars began the scoring, going up 2-0 a minute into the first half, but Kristen Scholl answered with a three pointer that would give the Fire a lead that they maintained until the final buzzer.
The Fire enjoyed a 31 point cushion at half and realized their largest lead of the game with 1:14 to play, up by 47. Collectively, they shot 45% from the field and sank 20 from beyond the arc.
Carly Newman led the Fire in scoring with 23 points, and recorded an additional seven rebounds and two assists on the season. Kristen Scholl and Jacqueline Sweasey trailed Newman with 15 and 14 points, respectively, while Hannah Demarest snagged 13 off the boards; good for the game high.
"It was a good shooting night coming off Thanksgiving break, but two of our players were injured which is very unfortunate," said Coach Jody Martinez. "Our thoughts and prayers are with them as we take these next eight days to prepare for our first conference game."
The Fire take the court next on Saturday, December 13th in their first conference matchup of the season against Warner University. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Furnace.
