SEU Comes Up Short Versus Concordia University

ORLANDO, Fla.--The SEU Lady Fire tennis team lost to Concordia College (Moorhead, Minn.) on Friday afternoon, 6-3, in a non-conference matchup.

Concordia grabbed their first win of the season, improving to 1-3 on the year.

Southeastern junior, Amanda Summers, finished the match unbeaten, winning in doubles and singles action.

Summers combined with Autumn Housefield to defeat Lauren Gravelle and Anna Rasmussen for SEU's only victory in doubles play, winning a close match, 8-6.

Concordia's Chelsie McGraw and Julie Olson put the Cobbers on the board first with an, 8-1, victory over SEU's Noelle Cottom and Wendy Reade. Next, Andrea Rognlien and Katie Edin won over Southeastern's Chelsey Lynn and Alexandra Fraser, 8-3, to grab a 2-1 advantage after doubles action.

In singles, Summers won the best match of the afternoon, defeating Olson 7-6 (7-1), 6-3. She now improves to 2-5 on the season in singles play.

Lynn won her second singles match of the season, defeating Rognlien in a tie-breaker, 2-6, 6-3, 10-7.

One close match that did not go the Lady Fire's way, was between SEU's Wendy Reade and Concordia's Lauren Gravelle. After losing the first set 2-6, Reade came back and won the second set, 7-5, before falling in the tie-breaker 6-4.

Cottom battled McGraw in a close match, but eventually lost in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

Southeastern's Fraser and Housefield also both lost in straight sets, as Fraser fell to Edin 6-1, 6-1 while Housefield lost to Rasmussen 6-2, 6-1.

Southeastern is now 1-7 on the season, and will travel to Orlando to play Alma College, Tuesday afternoon. at 4:00 p.m.
