Jeff Welsh joined the Fire softball staff in 2012 to prepare the team for its first year of competition.
During his time with the Fire, he served for two years in the sports information department, after spending four years as the Bethel College sports information director.
Born in South Bend, Indiana, Welsh assumed the role of sports information director at Bethel in 2008 after serving as an assistant softball coach for the previous three seasons.
Welsh’s coaching accolades include being a member of the 2004 MIAA Coaching Staff of the Year and the 2009, 2008, and 2007 NFCA Great Lakes Region Coaching Staff of the Year. Welsh has been an assistant coach on six conference championship teams and six conference tournament championship teams, as well as five NAIA National Tournament teams and the 2007 NCCAA Championship team.
As the sports information director at Bethel, Welsh oversaw the development of the new athletic website, bethelcollegepilots.com, in the summer of 2011. Among his other responsibilities, Welsh was in charge of media relations for all 16 sports, as well as writing releases, compiling statistics, maintaining the website, orchestrating gameday publications, and assisting in the production of media guides. Welsh also served on the President’s Strategic Marketing Team, a committee formed to plan and enhance the school’s marketing efforts.
Welsh earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in December of 1997, having majored in marketing and business management.
After serving as an intern at The College Football Hall of Fame during his final semester of college, Welsh was hired by the Chicago White Sox.
In January of 1998, Welsh began a four-year stint with the White Sox, first as an intern in the sales department and later as an account executive. During his four seasons as an account executive with the White Sox, Jeff was responsible for generating ticket revenue through the sale of season ticket packages and group ticket packages, such as diamond suites, to corporate clients. Welsh also coordinated and executed promotional nights such as youth baseball night and youth football night at U.S. Cellular Field.
Welsh and his wife, Anna, reside in Bartow with their two children, Izabelle and Elijah.
