Skylar Mayo joined the Fire coaching staff in the spring of 2018, working with the tight ends for two seasons and is now Defensive Line Coach/Run Game Coordinator.
Mayo was a member of the Fire during the 2013-14 "Bonnie Park" season, and played during the 2015 season on the offensive line. Mayo was also a student coach at SEU, during the 2016 season.
As tight ends coach, Mayo mentored Adam Toombs to a pair of All-Mid-South Sun Division seasons.
In his first season with the SEU defensive line, the Fire had 13 sacks in six games and were 10th in scoring defense at 13.5 points per game. The Fire held opponents to just 129.7 rushing yards per game.
Prior to returning to SEU, Mayo spent the season working at Mid-South Conference member Faulkner, assisting with the tight ends and fullbacks. The Eagles ranked in the Top 10 in the NAIA in passing offense, pass efficiency, scoring offense, and total pass offense. Mayo also spent the first two seasons of his playing career at Faulkner.
