John Roberts was added to the Fire Football staff just before the start of the 2020 season as the offensive line coach and took over as the Offensive Coordinator in 2021.

Roberts brings 18 years of experience that includes every position on offense as well as special teams, and NCAA Division I experience.

Most recently, Roberts coached at Mesa College in San Diego where he served as the offensive line coach for a season, and wide receivers coach along with special teams coordinator for three seasons. During the 2016 season with the offensive line, Mesa saw a dramatic increase in passing yards and rushing touchdowns thanks to a strengthened and improved front.

The Olympians saw one of their best passing seasons in 2018 while Roberts was working with the receivers, averaging 308 passing yards per game. In 2017, Mesa won the Southern California American Bowl and posted a 9-2 overall record.

Roberts spent two seasons as the head football coach at El Camino High School in Oceanside, Calif., leading the team to a CIF Division I runner-up finish in 2015, and a semifinal appearance the prior year. He also helped Saint Augustine High School win a CIF Division II Championship in 2013 as the associate head coach, offensive coordinator, and offensive line coach.

His first coaching job came at his alma mater of Utah State where he was the running backs coach, mentoring David Fiefia who went on to earn All-Sun Belt recognition and Chris Forbes who set three Aggie freshman records in 2004.
