MARSHALL, Mo. — A late set-piece breakthrough lifted No. 17 Southeastern (2-0-0) over No. 6 Missouri Valley (0-1-0) 1-0 on Monday night. Fire defender Olivia Thomassy delivered the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute off a corner kick service from teammate Rebecca Laface to keep SEU undefeated on the season.

Missouri Valley's defense was under early pressure from continuous attacks by Eden Greenfield and Olivia Hadad. Hadad forced Viking goalkeeper Lola Martinez Benitez into three first-half saves, but Missouri Valley held strong to keep the match scoreless heading into the intermission.

Southeastern turned up the offensive intensity in the second half, earning seven corner kicks to pin the Vikings deep in their own zone. Missouri Valley mounted a late push with five second-half shots, but Fire goalkeeper Madison Songer stopped all three attempts on target to preserve the clean sheet.

The decisive moment came at the 81:31 mark, when Laface swung a corner kick into the box that found Thomassy. The Lithia, Fla. native settled the ball on her right foot and blasted the winner into the roof of the net. Southeastern outshot Missouri Valley 13-5 on the night to secure the top-10 win.
